About the project:
Earlier this spring, a rainy day in May, KammarensembleN with conductor Christian Karlsen and soloist Jacob Kellermann met at Konstakademin to perform and present three works by three composers, inspired by their cultural backgrounds and by the idea of transcending borders.
Inspired in his musical language by the ancient Spanish culture with its mixture of Arabic, Jewish and Christian roots, José M. Sanchez-Verdu takes etchings by Francesco Goya as a starting point in his ensemble work Lux et tenebris.
Judisk kultur i Sverige had previously commissioned a piece from José M. Sanchez-Verdú. The piece Libro del Jardin de Arena had it world premiere at Berns, Stockholm in April 2015 in connection with the project Judisk Vår (Jewish Culture Season - Minorities in Dialogue).
Swedish-serbian Djuro Zivkovic had his international breakthrough when he was awarded the prestigious Grawemayer Award in 2014 and has since been performed by orchestras like the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony. Citadel of Love is his most recent work and takes his inspiration from the 10th century byzantine mystic Nikitas Stithatos. It was also recently awarded the Järnåker Award.
Since receiving the Ernst von Siemens Composers' Prize, Swedish composer Lisa Streich has become one of the most prominent composers in German and European music life. In her work Zucker for motorized ensemble she explores the concept of sweetness and the its place in contemporary music and art.
